At UCMMA 14 'INVINCIBLE' two of the UK's top 5 light heavyweights come together in what will be one of the biggest fights in the UK this year. Current UCMMA champion Jimi Manuwa defends his title against the formidable Valentino Petrescu.
Both fighters hold unblemished records and are known for there stand up prowess so an exciting fight is expected. Manuwa aka 'Poster Boy' is 8-0 with 7 of his wins coming by way of KO, Petrescu known as 'Battista' has an equally impressive record and is also 8-0 in his professional career to date with 5 KO victories to his name.
This will be Manuwa's 7th fight with London based UCMMA and whilst the champion is relishing defending his title he respects the threat that Petrescu poses and has therefore prepared himself in the best possible way, "I'm very excited about this fight", Manuwa told Full Mount MMA, "There is such a build up to it and I'm thriving off it. I'm training harder than ever because I know Petrescu is bringing a lot to the table. I do consider this my biggest fight - on paper anyway - but who knows how it will go?!"
Petrescu is making his UCMMA debut having won all of his 8 fights on rival promotion UWC. Debut or not 'Poster Boy' is expecting a tough fight.
"I'm expecting a hard fight from him. He is a stand up fighter with very good striking and also comes from a good BJJ camp. He is a good all rounder and that's why I consider him in the top 3 in the UK."
Manuwa made it clear that losing is not an option saying, "I'm not about to give my title away. I've worked too hard and put in too many hours in the gym to lose so that is not even an option. It never comes into my head.
"It's very important for me to retain my title because the belt belongs to me and that is where it's gonna stay. It's staying in London, not Essex [laughs]".
After a few setbacks this will be Manuwa's 2nd fight of 2010, gaining recognition internationally for his recent performances the future looks bright for the young American and he is confident that things will continue to move in he right direction thanks to his support team.
"2010 has had its ups and downs with a few exciting fights being cancelled but a lot has been happening behind the scenes and I think people are starting to recognise that I am not messing about, and I will be the best.
"The sky really is the limit and with God on my side we will get there. I'd like to give thanks to my team of coaches at Keddles Novaforca,187, my management and Zara for all their help in getting me where I am."
