So, as we know I wrecked my knee a good few months ago now. I tried to go back to Judo but broke down both times and have now come to the horrible realisation that far from being ready to go back around Christmas it would seem that March is a more realistic goal to start back at some very light levels of training and certainly no ran dori. I think over all if I'm back training within a year from the injury (tail end of July) I'll be very happy.
My doctor has said to continue the physio exercises and build up the muscles around it even more to support the tendon that will never quite go back to the way it was having been stretched so badly. Thankfully I apparently have quite large quads anyway which was quite nice to know!
With Judo being out I had been doing a bit more BJJ at the Griphouse in Glasgow. Sadly, with me upping the weight training and my job involving a fair bit of physical activity I managed to get bursitis in my right elbow! I had now idea what it was,I'd been at the pub with my lovely tennis champ girlfriend and had leant on the bar and felt a pain and assumed it was a trapped nerve.
This week's episode of the Ultimate Fighter focused on the team selection and first fight between Team Bisping & Team Mayhem. We also got to see the rivalry between both teams begin to heat up.
We cut to the house as the fighters arrive for the first time and immediately begin cooking up the biggest barbecue I've ever seen. I've no idea how anyone could even think about making weight after that!
Well, as you may know tonight was my first session back after my knee wrecking 3 months ago. As I mentioned in my previous blog tonights session was going to let me know how far along my recovery was and whether or not competing at this years Scottish Judo Open was going to be a possibility.
The session started well with the usual drills and warm ups. I did find myself being incredibly conscious of protecting my knee when doing my uchkomis and I found myself being a totally crap uki as I protected my knee from possibly being hurt.
The UFC's 'Ultimate Matt Hughes' hits the shelves following the Welterweight's loss to Josh Koscheck at UFC 135. The two disc dvd set contains over five hours of content and documents Hughes' rise to the top of the division, from his early days in the UFC losing to Dennis Hallman, to fighting Carlos Newton for the title to his legendary fights with BJ Penn and George St-Pierre – this is a must buy for UFC fans.
Disc 1 contains the main feature which documents' the former champion's career, beginning with stories told by Hughes' family about growing up and wrestling from a young age
As any of you who follow my ramblings on here from time to time will know, I pretty much dislocated my knee about 3 months ago. Well, after one abortive attempt at returning to training a couple of months ago I have decided that it feels okay enough to return to training again tomorrow night.
I have a feeling it's still not going to be up to it but with the Scottish Open looming at the end of October I need to enter pretty soon and if I'm going to enter I need to start training now, which, even now, is far too late really. Anyway, if I manage to train tomorrow all is good and I can get on with training etc etc, if it isn't ready yet then I'm going to have to admit defeat and give the Open a miss this year.
Welcome to week one of the Full Mount MMA Ultimate Fighter 14 blog. Each week I'll be taking a look at the episode immediately following the FX UK broadcast.
The UFC had promised that this season of the Ultimate Fighter was going to be the best yet and despite hearing that before the start of almost every new season, after this week's season premiere it's going to be hard to disagree!

I've never taken any kind of dietary supplement other than the odd vitamin tablet before, in fact I rarely bothered to train with weights at all so never felt the need. having found my weight dropping off due to my day job (it's not writing mma articles believe it or not!) and the lack of time to eat properly. I was 79kg and kinda flabby this time last year, this year with the Scottish Open looming I am currently around 69kg which leaves me in a difficult position, too light for the -73kg category I usually fight in but too heavy for the -66kg category.

UFC 130 was originally supposed to the stage on which fans would finally see the third installment of Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard, however injuries to both fighters caused the fight to be pushed back to late 2011 and the co-main bout of Rampage Jackson vs. Matt Hamill to take the main event slot.
The UFC did a good job of promoting Hamill as a threat to Jackson's number one contender hopes, however during the fight we saw the exact opposite. For fifteen minutes, Quinton Jackson outboxed Hamill and stuffed every single takedown the wrestler threw at him. To Hamill's credit, he took every big shot that Jackson hit him with when many others would have crumbled to the canvas. Jackson gave an excellent performance and made the fight look easy, seemingly breaking the spirit of Hamill, who announced his retirement from the sport just days later. The fight was a fairly forgettable one which was unfortunate with it being Hamill's last, however it's worth checking out to see Jackson put on a boxing clinic.
I haven't blogged in a while and there's a couple of reasons sadly. First up is lack of time because of all the awesome articles and interviews we've had lately which is great, second is the fact I've been injured and unable to train or compete.
Basically when training a couple of months ago a chap got his leg wrapped up in mine and when I went over my shin stayed upright and the rest of me didn't. My knee pretty much dislocated and came apart, wrenching all my tendons and other stuff. Thankfully it all snapped right back together so there was no actual dislocation. I was on the floor clutching my knee and goddamn did it hurt.
You know when you hurt yourself and you get that instant where you know its about to start hurting? That happened. Then you get the pain and you wait for it to subside, usually takes a few seconds? That didn't happen. It started hurting, then it got worse and it kept being unbearably painful for about what must have been 5 minutes. Strangely I didn't cry at all, I howled like a banshee but didn't cry at all which was frankly weird. Eventually the pain subsided enough for me to limp to the mat side and get some ice and one of the guys at the club who is a doctor checked me out and reckoned nothing was actually snapped thank god!
So I went to the grading and got my brown belt, woohoo! As I said in a previous blog, I only needed 3 points but I was still pretty nervous given my awful recent showings in competitive matches.
I got called for my first fight and I was matched up with an under 81kg guy (Im under 73's). Anyway, I pretty much dominated the fight and got him over for a wazari atone point, he went for a sankaku jime at one point bt I slipped out of it and got the fight back to the feet. After that, with about 30 seconds remaining I finally got in for a dirty great morote seoi nage and hauled the guy over my head for a huge ippon. The relief was palpable as that meant I had enough points for my brown and the second fight was an academic matter for me.
The 2nd fight was pretty good fun, I again dominated, scoring a wazari early on in the fight but couldnt quite get the big ippon. In the end it didnt matter as I got the guy down, took his back and gi choked him for the submission win after a couple of minutes. So I ended up with 47 points in total when I only needed 30 so it all worked out pretty well.
